It's a job! (No, no. A Different One!)

I made a locked post earlier because I didn't want to screw anything up, but it is now official. I have, unfortunately, turned down the job at Prime Therapeutics and accepted a job as Webmaster at the University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute. (My job will be to make the web page I've linked to better in several ways. Oh, the ways in which it needs to be better!)

The U job offers me less money than Prime was offering but has several advantages outside of money:
  • It is 1.8 miles from my house, as the bike rides or bus goes, as opposed to 13.2 miles as the car drives.
  • While benefits are roughly similar, the U also offers the opportunity for free classes.
  • It offers significantly greater responsibility in the work I'll be doing.
  • It is likely to be more layoff-proof.
  • The work atmosphere is decidedly laid back and casual.
  • (Newly discovered today:) I'll have a Mac as my main desktop machine.
So this seems to be just a great fit for me and I look forward to enjoying my work for a long time to come.
