|10:04 pm - Rude Awakening|
Was on my way to work this evening when I was pulled over by the friendly Minneapolis police. I was informed that my tabs were expired. Again. I missed their October expiration last year, you'd think I'd learn. On top of that, it appears my license has been suspended since June of this year for "failure to appear in court or pay a fine." No idea what that's about. And for the trifecta? They impounded my car, seeing as I'm not allowed to be driving it.
Work is, fortunately, understanding and, I'm told, not too busy. So I get a day off, which, frankly, I could use. It'll be an expensive day off, though.
I say again: Arrgh.

Arrgh. That sucks.
I thought I saw a news story a while back about how a rather large number of people may have suspended licenses and not know it-- I forget what it was all about. Might be worth a search of local news websites.

Oh, my god, Hon. This totally bites!
I think you need to pull the covers over your head and hide for a day!
Morons. In a time when the MPD is down the equivalent of a full precinct, and misdemeanors have become non-arrestable, and they've dropped the burglary/bunko division, they waste time with this?

Well, crap. It's one thing for meter monitors to drive around the neighborhoods on the 10th of every month and ticket those whose tabs expired the previous month (they've caught me more times than I care to think of, including at least once when I already had the tabs but hadn't put them on). It's another thing entirely for them to have patrol officers spend time on this. If they want to do traffic stops, how about all the people running red lights, or going 45-50 where the speed limit is 30?

My Mom and I have both been stopped for expired tabs out along highway 15 (heading West toward Mound). I've never seen anyone stopped by a cop along that road in all my years of driving it. You probably know it or are familiar with the type of road from your years in Deephaven, it's a twisty narrow road with bits of Lake Minnetonka on both sides. So it's very disruptive (and a bit dangerous, IMHO) to stop anyone there.
And yet, my Mom and I were both stopped along there for expired tabs. (I've been stopped multiple times for expired tabs, the big concern seems to be that expired tabs might equal no insurance).

I added you to my friends list because I find you interesting. I hope you do not mind. I will not be offended if you do not reciprocate, I do not post often.

Thanks and welcome. I certainly don't mind being added to your friends list. I've always found LJ's use of that word a bit odd as it most often means "people who's journals I read," but also is used to mean "people I trust to read protected entries." In any case, my journal's all public so read and enjoy!
Ouch. I went through something very similar last year and am still waiting on my new license after paying the reinstatement fee and retaking the test.
