The weekend that wasn't

Friday night I came home and had a long nap. Ericka has a helper most Friday nights this semester (scheduling being an artifact of the class schedules of her helpers) so I could have gone out and done something. But a nap was the thing to have.

Saturday, I also was surprisingly tired and slept most of the day away. When I wasn't sleeping I was bemoaning my lack of snacks and silently cursing the television that refused to cooperate with the idea that I could lay on the couch and watch a movie.

Sunday, I took the dogs to the dog park. We were there for about three hours. Tara and I were ready to leave after about one and a half, but Teddy, as much as he resists getting in the van, would stay there all day if I let him. After about two and a half hours, I took Tara to the van and then returned to the park to get Teddy and spent the last half hour rounding him up. "Keep Away From the Human" being one of his favorite games.

In the evening I watched (as the TV had decided to cooperate) some Torchwood. Then I watched some Stargate: Atlantis. It was time to go to bed then, but upon trying that, I found I couldn't sleep. So I got up and watched Contact on TCM. (No commercials and letterbox! Whee!) That ended about 2:30 a.m. and I still wasn't sleepy. So I stayed up and watched The Bodyguard. (Holy dysfunctional relationships!) That took me to about 4:30 a.m. At that point I recognized what was happening. I had a touch of a fever, just enough to keep me restless and sweaty, and a creeping malaise that made it seem a great effort to get up off the couch and actually go to bed.

Ah, I said. I had a flu shot on Friday. (They were free for staff at the Wellness Fair.) So this was just my immune system doing a little extra work to make things odd.

So the 6:00 a.m. feeding of the dogs came mighty early this morning, but I was able to catch a cat-nap (complete with cat) after that and still get to work by 8:00 in relatively good shape. I'm a bit more sleepy than usual this time of day, but I think I'll be able to stick it through the rest of the afternoon without too much difficulty.
