Welcome to the future

As I just remarked to fredcritter, isn't it cool to be living in the future? I was just reading the BBC news web site's Science and Nature section (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/default.stm) and was gobsmacked by the following stories in short order:
  • Coverage of Deep Impact, including photos from within 30km of the surface of a comet!
  • The latest in the development of Iter, the nuclear fusion project starting development in France.
  • The recent discover from Cassini-Huygens that Saturn's rings have an atmosphere and that it's largely made of oxygen.
  • The test flight of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered airplane.
I tell ya, when I start to think the news is all depressing, it's things like this that remind me there are a lot of smart people out there working to make our world a better place.
