The movie meme

Herded my way by minnehaha:

Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.
  1. "Quiet now, there's a good gentleman. You'll frighten the lads."
ktynes got this one, It's Zulu, on the list because I first saw it with my gaming buddies and it's chock full of manly goodness. Also, Michael Caine's first film.
  2. "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!"
jrittenhouse was first with this rather obvious one. It is, of course Casablanca, on the list because it is the best movie of all time.
  3. "I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do."
Another easy one that jrittenhouse got. This is 2001: A Space Odyessy, on the list because it is the first DVD I ever saw.
  4. "I want my father back, you son of bitch."
jrittenhouse gets another. This is The Princess Bride, on the list because it combines a lovely story with multiple levels of enjoyment.
  5. "We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life."
jrittenhouse gets another easy one. This is C3PO from Star Wars, on the list because it's the first film I saw that made me want to make films.
  6. "It's not the age, it's the mileage."
jrittenhouse clearly has too much time on his hands and gets this one, Raiders of the Lost Ark, on the list because this line is the one I use when people tell me I look older than I am.
  7. "Much that once was, is lost, for none now live who remember it."
Yep, it's jrittenhouse again, getting another easy one, LotR: The Fellowship of the Ring, on the list because it's the first movie that made want to (re)read the book.
  8. "Who died and left you in charge?"
  9. "Remember; you have to make it home to get paid."
  10. "It's not my goddamn planet."
jrittenhouse on the mark again with The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, on the list because it's just too full of cool stuff.
  11. "It's like those miserable psalms; so depressing."
jrittenhouse must be embarrassed that he didn't get this one. With voice-over, I'm sure he would. But rvrjoe775 correctly called out Monty Python and the Holy Grail, on the list because I can practically recite it from memory.
  12. "For it is the doom of men that they forget."

Had my appointment at the travel clinic to get my immunizations for my trip to India. It went about as well as expected. I'm now all immunized for the stuff they recommend being immunized for. These include hepatitis A, typhoid, polio, influenza, tetanus and diphtheria. Five shots, two in the right arm, three in the left. I figure I'll be sore tonight. If I was staying longer or doing work with animals, I'd be getting my rabies shots, too.In addition to the shots, I'll be getting pills to take for malaria starting the day before I leave and continuing for a week after I return and antibiotics to take along in case of travelers' diarrhea. I also got 48 pages of scary printout taking about the various diseases one can contract and full of warnings to not drink or even brush your teeth with the water, not eat salads or anything from a street vendor.

I am, overall, not too worried about things. The immunizations and malaria medication make sense to me and I will, of course, avoid the local tap water and street vendors for most things. I'm not going to miss out on local cuisine by being over-cautious, however. I figure a bout of severe diarrhea I can deal with, if that's the worst of it.

Bring on the side effects!

So the soreness from the immunizations woke me up a bit earlier and I've been kept awake by a mild headache and what feels like a low-grade fever. Nothing too surprising. I'm wondering if the nausea is from the shots or simply from not eating since 10:30 a.m. combined with the other symptoms.

In any case, I've taken some acetaminophen in hopes of reducing the headache, joint ache and fever while my body kicks up the antibodies. Moving my arms also helps, so I'll keep doing that when I think of it.

Should eat but that seems particularly like a bad idea just now.

Oh, that helped

An infusion of chicken soup and 7-Up has greatly improved my outlook on this whole immunization process. Now to have a medicinal quantity of cookies to round out the support of my immune system....

I don't, honestly expect people to get them all, so here's the full list, with credit where it's due:
  1. "Quiet now, there's a good gentleman. You'll frighten the lads."

  8. "Who died and left you in charge?"
This is from Spaced Invaders a hilarious take on The War of the Worlds in which Martians mistakenly invade Earth on Halloween. The answer to the question is, "Captain Bipto!"
  9. "Remember; you have to make it home to get paid."
Christopher Walken to his fellow mercenaries in The Dogs of War. On the list because it is simultaneously an interesting modern political story and an action/war movie.
  10. "It's not my goddamn planet."
jrittenhouse on the mark again with The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, on the list because it's just too full of cool stuff.

  12. "For it is the doom of men that they forget."
And this is Merlin from Excalibur. On the list because kindled an interest in Arthurian legend that went beyond what little I'd picked up here and there.
