|11:28 pm - I am a lucky bastard|
I've started playing poker online at pokerroom.com. I've had middling success the last couple of months; won back the initial amount that I bought in with and have been playing with my profit going up and down.
Being fairly familiar with limit Texas Hold 'Em (where the amounts of bets and raises are fixed at specific amounts, e.g., $2 before the flop and on the flop and $4 on the turn and river) and Omaha High/Low, I have spent most of my time playing those games for manageable limits. I started playing a the tables with 25¢/50¢ limits and worked my way up to the $3/$6 limits.
Lately, however, I have tired my hand at No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em. At first, I limited myself to tournaments. For a fixed buy-in of anywhere from $1 to $10, I could get some experience and a chance for a decent payoff. The bad thing about these, however, was that they required a big chunk of dedicated time. So, last week, I started playing the ring games where you bring in a chunk of money and play for as long as you like (or until you run out of cash).
I've been having a good run. For the last week or so, I built up enough profit to take $270 out of my poker account and back into my bank account.
Today, my luck has been incredible and I just cashed out another $500 dollars. Not quitting the day job, but it's been a nice little bonus.
