A night of work

But not at work.

Wednesdays are a day off on my new schedule. This gave me some time to get some important work done even though I wasn't being paid for a lick of it.

First off, I hosted a house party for the John Kerry campaign. A dozen or so people showed up, all friends I had invited who I thought would be interested in volunteering to help the campaign. Everyone seemed to enjoy hearing more about Senator Kerry, getting his positions more clearly defined and hearing some of the plans for his campaign. The campaign workers were pleased, I think, that three or four other house parties will come of this one, hosted by people that attended the one I hosted. I'm glad of this because there is both some overlap in circles of friends, so people who couldn't get to mine for one reason or another will have a chance to attend another, and I also tried to choose people who I thought had diverse social contacts beyond my own, so the message will spread wider.

Later in the evening, just a short while ago, in fact, I finished reading Live the Life You Love by Barbara Sher. It's an interesting program of tracking down what motivates you, what excites you and what sorts of things you can do to include that in your life. I'm feeling more and more stifled in my current job and also growing lackadaisical about looking for different jobs. This is a recipe for disaster as it means that I'll either end up in a job that bores me or I'll do something to get myself fired. I'm looking forward to going back through the book and working on the exercises. You'll likely read the fruits of my efforts here as it's a convenient place to store some thoughts.
