This game, the Twins won, as you might have gathered. It was a pitcher's dual through the eighth inning with the Twins leading 1-0 through seven. Top of the seventh, the A's scored two to take the lead and added another at the top of the eighth.
Bottom of the eighth, Dustan Mohr got on board with a one-out double. A. J. Pierzynski, who was the object of boos when in Oakland last week due to taking pride in his game-winning home run when the Twins played Oakland for the division title last year, was hit by a pitch. While this sparked outrage from the fans, the benches were pretty cool about it and Bobby Kielty came to the plate as a pinch hitter representing the go-ahead run.
As if affected by instant karma, A's pitcher Barry Zito left a fastball up in the strike zone and Bobby took it deep. But it landed about six feet foul in the lower deck seats in left field. Bobby then worked up to a full count. The crowd was on its feat, the loudest I've seen the dome since the playoffs last year. Zito tried another fastball. Bobby connected and the place went nuts. A home run put the Twins up 4-3.
"Everyday" Eddie Guardado came in for the top of the ninth. He struck out two batters and got the third to lift a short fly to foul territory just past third base to end the game. All in all a very satisfying game.
