Just some things I was thinking...

So the result of my ER stay seems to be that I'm a few dollars poorer and still not sleeping well due to an ache in my chest. Grr. Doctors!

I really hate that! I know it's important to get things checked out and I know doctors can't diagnose everything, but it's such a disincentive if you have this sort of inconclusive experience more than a couple of times.

Not to mention the money issue.

Fortunately, the money is relatively modest. I needed to get in to see a doctor anyway, but not having a diagnosis is a pain in the ass. The best scenario is that the symptoms just go away on their own. Second best is that they persist long enough to track down a diagnosis. Neither is particularly appealing for my general comfort and piece of mind.

could be worse

Peter: It could be worse - you could have had a heart attack. So, instead of being home, you might have three or four stents in arteries and be "resting" in ICU, hooked up to various intravenous tubes AND a monitor with 8 or 10 leads. As you may know, I went through that recently (yesterday was the one month mark) and would have much preferred to go home without the operation, even if they didn't diagnose the problem!

Oh, and, if you had a heart attack, you could be on the five meds (plus fish oil and baby aspirin) that I take every day! Oh, and you could be carrying nitro pills around "just in case".

Feel better?

Indeed, I don't wish for anything like your ordeal and count my blessings that it wasn't anything ... actionable. It is still a bit frustrating.
