12:30 pm - Plant love
I stayed up late in order to get to the first day of the Friends School Plant Sale today. I'm happy I did. Quite a crowd; the line to enter snaked the length of the State Fair grandstand, up a cross-street and part way back the block by the time I got there. Though, by the time I left, it looked like everyone had entered the sale and no line was in sight.

I picked up some more native plants to add to my prairies. I decided to put off major purchases for the rain garden until next year as I don't really have the free cash for that right now. So I settled for single specimens of Anise Hyssop, Brown-Eyed Susan, Butterfly Weed, Stiff Goldenrod, Sweet Joe Pye Weed, Ox-eye Sunflower and Wild Ginger.

All the plants look healthy and happy and just bursting to get into the ground. But now is the time for sleep for me, so they'll have to wait until later today or tomorrow morning.

By some remote chance, did you see Irene? She dropped me off at work about 8:40, and then was headed for the Friends School Plant Sale, and then the University of Minnesota Horticulture Club Plant Sale. I haven't heard from her yet - she could still be shopping!

Heard from Irene! Salvia, Blue Fescu, Heirloom Tomatoes, Astilbe(?), Marigolds, a few more - she made it to both sales, spent about $130.

I did not see her; there were many people at the Friends School sale and I saw the U of M sale on my way home and it looked busy as well. I didn't stop there as Ericka reported from her visit there yesterday that their stuff was more expensive. Even at the great prices the Friends School has, I could have easily spent twice what Irene did. As it was, I was very disciplined and got away with only $25.
