Ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that you think should be obvious, but you have no idea about.

Ask away. Then post this in your LJ (if you want, you black sheep) and find out what people don't know about you.

This probably qualifies as prying, but I can't get this from context:
1. What is the nature of your and Erika's relationship?
2. What is Erika's health problem?

1. Ericka and I have been living together since 1988. We would likely be married if doing that didn't mean that she'd lose her current health care and we'd be forced to make choices between life-sustaining medicine and food before she could get covered under my insurance.

2. Ericka's primary diagnosis is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (or Disorder, i never remember which) or COPD. She is dependant upon steroids (specifically predinsone) in order to keep her lung passages open. She has developed steroid-induced diabetes. (How's that for irony?) She has some other diagnoses, but those are the ones that have a daily impact. The main effect is that she cannot ambulate more than about 20 feet without getting short of breath.

*Big Hugs* to both you and Ericka. You posted a pic of her once...she's just wonderful.

I hope you can entice her to join us here on LJ. We're good (but wierd!) people.

She has an account, erickavan, but doesn't post. She will send off the occasional comment, though.

I'm currently a typesetter at a financial printing firm. I mostly add codes to text files in order to produce styled text output. The tool we use is optimized for printing, surprise, financial tables, but does general layout pretty nicely too. My typical day at work involves getting a sheaf of hard copy that is a print out of the customer's data, typically delivered in a Word file, shuffling it into smallish chunks and breaking the associated data into corresponding files. These chunks get tickets with their file name and are put into one of a set of bins that make up out "job board." My fellow typesetters and I then sign out individual files, add the codes necessary, print out the results, attach them to the hard copy and put them into another bin for proofreading. This cycles through the proofreading process until all the files are okayed. Then I collect all the files and do copyfitting across the whole job and update any table of contents. The final thing gets printed out for one last quality check and, after any last-minute corrections, gets sent off to one of our customer service offices.

My greatest fault is that I am lazy. I'll go through periods of great productivity, but I am too capable of just shutting down and doing absolutely nothing.

I think the thing I'm currently best at is explaining technical concepts to non-technical people. I understand both artists and engineers and translate from one to the other pretty well.
